French 1930s metal Chicorée kitchen box.

Product Details

Product Description

This French metal box was made in the 1930s to store some roasted chicory root, which is a coffee substitude particularly popular in Belgium and in France.

It is in good condition for its age, but looks a bit old, which is normal for a 1930s item which has been used a lot.

There are a few scratches here and there, and the lid is not attached to the box anymore (please see last photo). However, it could be repaired with a small piece of iron.

It measures 15 cm x 12.5 cm x 9 cm = 5.90" x 4.92" x 3.54"

It weighs 191 g
This is the weight of the item itself, without any protection and packaging. Please do not take into account the weight entered on the item's "details" page, as it is only used by the software to calculate shipping costs.

You can read in this article a short history of the chicory as coffee substitute, and some vintage French (or Belgium?) adverts for this very popular drink:

£16.60 inc. tax
